About us
Founded by Jonathon Hyjek, a part-time wheelchair user with Spina Bifida, Active Mobility Solutions sources unique mobility products from manufacturers around the world, making them available to disabled users in Canada and the United States.
How we started
Active Mobility Solutions was started by Jonathon Hyjek, out of a desire to see more people with mobility challenges, out and about, living life to the fullest. Born with Spina Bifida and becoming a part-time wheelchair user in his 30’s, Jonathon found the perfect wheelchair for his needs.
Then came the task of customizing his wheelchair to make it more functional and easier to use on a daily basis. He found that understanding your wheelchair was crucial, and that the smallest of changes in the wheelchair or the accessories added to it can have a big impact on a wheelchair can enhance your daily life.
After searching and not being able to find affordable and unique mobility products in Canada, he began a journey of sourcing unique mobility product manufacturers around the world and making them available to the Canadian market through Active Mobility Solutions.
Our mission
Our mission is to destigmatize disability, aging, and mobility challenges.
We don’t view disability and aging as negative aspects of life to endure, but rather obstacles that can be overcome with the right mindset, support, and tools.
We desire to help those with mobility challenges to lead active and full lives, not allowing mobility challenges to stop people from getting out and enjoying what the world has to offer.
Mobility challenges are not a death sentence unless you allow them to be. We can show you how the right mobility products can help you enjoy life, travel, spend more time with loved ones or get outdoors and enjoy nature.
